Unless you live under a rock in the YA world, you didn't miss the unveiling of City of Bones first official movie trailer. In this peek at the world of Clary Fray and the Shadowhunters, we are shown snippets of our favorite characters from the beloved series. Simon, Jace, Alec, the whole gang is in there. Haven't seen it? Take a look!
After watching this trailer multiple times, I have to say I'm...underwhelmed.
I feel like City of Bones is going to have the same atmosphere as the (finally) concluded Twilight movies. From the trailer, the characters seem to be overplayed, emotional, and static. I mean, The Mortal Instruments series is not a series to read if you're looking for deep, meaningful journeys of life and life-altering views on the world. I know that the audience for Clare's series is one that wants the romance like Twilight and the vampires and the werewolves. But from the trailer, I feel like Lily Collins is portraying Clary as some helpless little puppy. I mean, really, we already see her crying in the trailer! The action scenes also seem a bit dull, likewise with Twilight's. There doesn't seem to be that passion in the characters that were portrayed in the books.
But this is all from 2 minutes, right?

Great post! I LOVE the trailer! I questioned some of their casting choices but I do think they're going to pull through. A lot of movies make trailers before anything else so a lot of these scenes may not even make it to the big screen ya know?
ReplyDeleteI am more excited about this movie than I have ever been about another one (unless it was a Tim Burton movie, nothing trumps those). All I wanna know is... where's Magnus? HE is what will have me there opening night. :)
Barely heard of it! (So I guess I live under a angel-less-rock). But the trailer did look quite cool!! I will have to go read about the books now. :)

ReplyDeleteI love Lily as an actress so I was happy she was cast to play the role of Clary. I didn't have issue with Jamie as Jace, but after the trailer, I'm a bit concerned. He seems to be too brooding and serious, while the Jace I remember is sarcastic and fun. But like you say, this is only 2 mins. I don't know much about the rest of the cast, except for Lena Headey (Jocelyn), Jonathan Meyers (Valentine), Jared Harris (Hodge) and Godfrey Gao (Magnus) which I’ve seen in other movies. As for Simon, Isabelle, Alec and Luke, I can only say that they at least look the part.
I think the movie should turn out well as long as they steer clear of stiff-Twilight-eske acting or long, drawn-out HungerGames-like moments of inactivity. I’m very curious to see the chemistry between the actors ;)
I really liked the trailer! I wasn't too keen on the casting choices, but after seeing the trailer my faith in the movies been restored!
